at the June 4 Market…

What will you buy? Bring the BIG wagon – it’s OPENING DAY!

  • Plato’s Harvest Organic Farm

Has anyone seen May, you know, the month of? I lost it somewhere, I think due to traumatic irrigation amnesia. Wow, it was dry – but things look great! It’s so easy to not have weeds when it never rains, and as long as I’m able to keep water on things, they’re looking great. We have meat birds fattening up, the pigs are loving life in the woods, and we have 6 red Devon cows (the breed the Pilgrims brought over and that you can see at Plimoth Plantation) grazing in a lush pasture.

This week we’ll be bringing: arugula, basil, beets, broccoli, chard, collard greens, kale, kohlrabi, many kinds of lettuce, mustard greens, radishes, spinach, napa cabbage, bok choi, and eggs.

Welcome to week one! Get the knives sharpened, stock up on the olive oil and salt, and get ready to cook and enjoy the best, freshest, most nutritious, most delicious food that you can buy anywhere!

Thanks for your support, and don’t take food from strangers!

    Dave

  • Web of Life Organic Farm

We appreciate the support and look forward to seeing all our friends this Thursday! Stop by our table and congratulate Stephanie who just graduated college with a degree in biology. As she says: she used to be underpaid now she’s grossly underpaid!!

This week we have lots of seedlings, including a great mix of tomato varieties (cherries, heirlooms, red slicers), cukes, squash, herbs, lettuces…
In the food department we’ll have green garlic, green onions, kale, rainbow chard, a selection of salad greens, herbs, radishes, salad turnips and more. All certified organic.

NEW THIS WEEK! Golden cheesy pizza dough! You know those golden cheese buns that you love? Now imagine being able to use that same dough for the base of your pizza!

    Recipe from Jenny
It is very hard to imagine that one might have a leftover chocolate buns or two. Crazy, I know! But in the rare instance that this might happen, try this: slice it in half, butter each side generously and toast SLOWLY in a cast iron pan. In a few minutes, the bun will warm through, soften slightly and the chips will begin to melt. But don’t eat it too fast-those chips will burn if you’re not careful (I may have done that once or twice). If you want to kick it up a notch even further, put a scoop of vanilla ice-cream inside the toasted bun. Oh yeah!

This month at the May Market…

What will you buy? Bring the BIG wagon – it’s May and we are OUTSIDE!

    • Plato’s Harvest Organic Farm

Busy, busy, busy…. what happened to that nice relaxing winter we had just a few weeks ago? We’ve been busy planting lots of greens, settling in the pigs, getting ready for the cows, and watering, watering, watering. Things are looking great, as long as we can keep water on them. We will have a bumper crop of all kinds of stuff on opening day….

For this week we’ll be bringing lots of baby lettuce, baby, dirty spinach (picked just 5 hours prior), baby napa cabbage (do you notice a theme?), broccoli raab, bags of baby chard and kale and collards, and eggs. I have a few more csa shares to sell, email for details or ask at the market.

Jenny’s Bread and I have a cross promotion:
      1. Buy a bag of spinach and a dozen eggs and get $1 off a package of pie crusts
      2. Buy 2 loaves of bread and get $1 off a dozen eggs.
      What a deal!

Our favorite hometown brewery is having their annual open house this Sat, May 16, from 12-6. There will be great beer, food, and music by one of our favorite farm bands – Whiskey Sunday!  It’s a fun, family-friendly event.

Thursday looks like a beautiful day, hope to see lots of you there! Thanks for your support, and don’t take food from strangers! ~Dave
    • Web of Life Organic Farm

Well after a late start, we are in full swing! Stephanie helps as she can, while she readies herself for college graduation, and a career in nursing. We’re planting every day, and hope to have enough peas to supply the eastern seaboard.

The biggest challenge we face this spring? Our new addition to the farm: O’Malley. He is 8 months old, and we’re unsure if he’ll make it to 9 months. Planting peas, he snags the bag of pea seeds and takes off. Bad dog! After covering cabbage, he grabs 100 ft of row cover in his mouth and tears across the newly planted field. BAD DOG! But yesterday? A glimmer of hope! He spotted a fox eyeballing the chickens, and chased it off the farm!! GOOD, GOOD DOG!!!
Looking forward to being back on the grassy field Thursday. Hope to see you! Meet me at the Market! ~Donna
