This month at the April Market…
What a difference a couple of weeks makes, eh? The snow is gone, and we’re itching to get into the field and catch up… You wouldn’t think anything would grow under that snow covered greenhouse, but the spinach was slowly putting on size, and is growing like crazy now. Since we couldn’t do anything out in the field, we’re right on top of everything in the greenhouse, and while we might be a week or so behind in the field, everything will catch up. Somehow it will work out…
This week I’ll have gobs of eggs, the last of the delicious, sweet root-cellared carrots, a selection of potatoes, and bags and bags of fresh, crisp, deep green spinach. I’ll also have csa brochures and money market cards available. And, it’s the time of year when you should be chatting up your farmer to try and get him to plant some favorite item that you haven’t seen before at the market…
If you come in with two of Jenny’s pizza doughs, I’ll take $1 off a bag of spinach. You’ll have to talk to her about what to do with them… Oh, and our favorite local brewery is having their annual open house in a couple weeks, with one of our favorite farm bands – Whiskey Sunday! Ask me for details…
As always, thanks for your support, and don’t take vegetables from strangers! -Dave
It must be spring! I’ve ordered bees and chicks, and have 1/2 of my greenhouse tables full of seedlings. Always an exciting time of the year, with the promise of a bountiful season ahead. This week we will be pruning, grapes, raspberries and fruit trees, always our favorite job. Thank you to all who signed up for our farm box program! Steph will be at the market with lots of potatoes, the last of our canned tomatoes, garlic powder and jams and jellies. Come by and see us! As always thanks for your support. Meet me at the Market!
Spring has arrived, the grass is beginning to green and all of our critters are starting to emerge from there Winter coops. Our first to batches of broilers are in the brooder and we will be at market with chicken, eggs, and even a little pork!
No more snow! Come get your bacon!!
Spring is finally here! We got the tractor into the fields today for the first time, turning soil, getting ready to do our first field plantings. In the mean time, we’re busy in the greenhouse (with the baby in a sling… when she’s in the mood). We’ll be bringing a limited quantity of green things from our greenhouse: spinach, rainbow chard, delicious spring raab..We’ll also be bringing lots of sweet carrots, beets, potatoes, shallots, watermelon radishes and more. All certified organic.
Also come grab a brochure for our summer vegetable CSA. We’re offering a weekly pick up at the summer Plymouth farmers market. If you want to come pick up a box every week with an assortment of veggies, our CSA gives you a significant savings off of farmers market pricing. Details in the brochure and on our website.

Baker & Cook Notes…
This month’s specials (HOT or FROZEN and ready-to-go) are Pozole soup (a Mexican soup dating back to pre-Columbian times made with our own chicken stock, carnitas (shredded pork), hominey and garnished with cabbage, radishes and avocado). Back by popular demand, we are also serving up some LOW-CARB and PALEO Colcannon. In place of the traditional mashed potatoes, we use a celery root & cauliflower puree with clarifed butter. We will also have a VEGETARIAN Puerto Rican Chickpea stew. As always we will have our empanadas including our new sweet one filled with guava and cream cheese. We have a handful of burnt end empanadas left. We have homemade vegetable broth for sale and don’t forget our unique and tasty cookies! Stop by for samples, dinner or take home frozen for future meals!
GLUTEN-FREE BREADS: Country White, Maple-Oat, Multi-Grain Flax. No additives or preservative! Pre-Sliced and wrapped to go right into your freezer. Makes excellent Panini’s, French Toast, and grilled cheese. Great for toasting too. We also offer hand cut English Muffins, they are dairy free as well as Gluten-Free! Come early and get some Gluten-Free cookies too
It has been a long, long winter and many of you, who I haven’t seen much of this winter, will be looking for your favorites. I won’t disappoint! You’ll find chocolate and cheese buns, peasant and anadama breads and oatmeal (with Maine grown oats!) breads, and two kinds of pizza doughs (time to fire up that grill-finally!). Depending on how the week unfolds, I may have some spinach and feta flatbreads made with Plato’s Harvest spinach, Web of Life Garlic and Narragansett Creamery feta cheese. And maybe, just maybe a few honey buns-meet me at the market!Grilled pizza tips:1. Pre-cook doughs.
2. Go light on the toppings.
2. Once cooked, the doughs should be topped and put back on the grill, OFF HEAT and covered to get the cheese to melt.
Spring is slowly making an appearance. In addition to all your regular favorites, we will be bringing all things Spring! Asparagus Quiche, Mushroom Galettes, Lemon Bars, Lemon Bread, Challah…..See you at the Market!Challah is great simply toasted with butter…or slice it for traditional french toast (don’t forget the cinnamon and vanilla) or use it for an overnight baked french toast for the weekend…
